In the process of discovering the language, students are introduced to the French-speaking world in a way that challenges them to look at their own culture more objectively and with topics that touch on every student's life and interests. Cultural themes are fully integrated throughout the text and reinforced with “Voix en direct” and “Voix en direct (suite),” which allow students to listen in on and watch interactions in truly authentic cultural contexts.
Authentic readings in “Perspectives culturelles” and “À lire, à découvrir et à écrire” throughout the book present the latest and most current issues in the Francophone world. These readings expose students to fiction and nonfiction genres, including magazine articles and interviews, poems, short stories, letters, and songs.
Shaded “Structure” boxes appear within each module to alert students to the targeted structures, highlight how those structures fit in with the theme, and direct learners to the “green” page where they can find a full grammar presentation, examples, and guided practice.
“Structures utile”- the “green” pages of each chapter - allow students to study French as a system. These pages provide concise grammar explanations in English, examples and translations, exercises to apply the rules, and “Tout ensemble!”- the final exercise that challenges students to integrate all of the vocabulary and structures of the chapter.
