Terri Metzger
I have extensive experience supporting students and faculty in teaching and learning. For almost 30 years, I have served as a faculty member in the Communication and Media Studies Department at California State University San Marcos, where my work has been focused on curriculum design, course coordination, and faculty development.
For much of my time at CSUSM, I have coordinated a large-scale general education course that reaches more than 1,000 students each semester. I led a team of 12–15 faculty and collaborated with campus partners, ranging from IT to advising, to continually refine how we deliver engaging, consistent instruction across 50+ course sections. Tools like Cengage MindTap and Bongo have been essential in supporting scalable teaching practices, standardized delivery, and enhanced student outcomes.
My priority is to make teaching more effective and rewarding for everyone involved. Beyond the classroom, I’ve led assessment efforts at course, program, and institutional levels, served as a special advisor on curriculum, and served on various planning, advisory and governance committees. My campus fellowship for teaching and learning generated a new initiative and led to the development of our teaching and learning center. I bring a deep understanding of both faculty and students’ needs to craft solutions, and I derive great satisfaction from the opportunity to build learning experiences that truly connect—with students, with faculty, and with the broader goals of higher education.
