Marc Wilson
Education is my life and my passion! I truly enjoy helping students discover (or rediscover) the joy of learning. I have experienced higher education from the vantage point of student, professor, dean, and parent. These perspectives, combined with my experience designing and delivering courses and programs in multiple modalities including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and CBE formats, to traditional and adult students, have informed my philosophy of higher education.
This philosophy draws from the literature on adult learning theory, neuroscience-informed learning models, the student retention literature, student advising models, and developmental and counseling psychology. I believe that learning occurs best in a context in which students are encouraged to take an active role in meaning-making. I subscribe to the notion that “not all great minds think alike.”
I have designed and implemented strategies for assisting at-risk students, trained academic advisors and faculty in retention strategies at numerous schools and presented sessions and keynote addresses at regional and national conferences on topics including enhancing student engagement, educational technologies, and increasing instructor effectiveness and satisfaction.
I consider faculty development to be of paramount importance in contributing to student and faculty success. I was fortunate to serve as a faculty training consultant for Cengage for several years where I provided faculty development workshops at schools and conferences across the country.
