Kelvin Wong

I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Economics and Director of the Program on Economic Education at Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business. My research and teaching focus is on applied microeconomics, labor economics, and economic education. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2016, where I first experienced the unique challenge of engaging students in large lectures.

Over the years, I have made it a goal to use a blend of classroom experiments, games, demonstrations, and activities to engage my students. I am also a big believer that technology can enhance student learning and engagement, and am always looking to innovate in the classroom. My goal is to use technology in a way that students feel more connected to me as a professor and to their classmates.

My teaching philosophy centers around the idea of servant leadership. I count it a privilege to have the opportunity to work with students from all walks of life, and aim to lead and teach through serving them. This does not mean every student will ace my course (in fact, many fail each semester!), but students should feel cared for and served by me. My goal each semester is to help students see that economics all around them, and that the tools they learn in my class will make them more informed and thoughtful citizens in today’s world.
