A third-generation and "Who's Who Among American Teachers" educator, I teach Spanish whenever and wherever possible. I've taught in both high school and higher education environments.
I currently teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish at Northwest Mississippi Community College DeSoto Center in Southaven, MS. In addition to traditional courses, I also teach Spanish II online, utilizing both Canvas and iLrn.
iLrn has given me hands-on, readily available, practical material to move my students into meaningful language learning. I love how it simplifies my job by allowing me to easily assign activities not only for an entire course, but also to copy the course from semester to semester. Additionally and importantly, my students feel empowered by all the resources available through iLrn. The integration of the e-book with built-in videos, podcasts, flash cards and vocabulary pronunciation tools allow them to have instruction 24/7. Additionally, my students praise the integration of the practice tests, online quizzes and extra practices available with the crossword puzzle and the concentration activities.
In 2013, I was selected to represent MFLA as the "Best of Mississippi" at SCOLT on Technology Tips and Tools, which was also presented in the 2012 National Association of Hispanic and Latino Studies Conference. I was selected as Mississippi's Teacher of Excellence in Higher Education in 2013, and I am the current Mississippi Foreign Language Association President. I received my BA and MA from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS, graduating with honors.
