Ivette Chuca
I received a M.S. degree in Mathematics in 2002 from New Mexico State University and a B.A. in Mathematics (2000) from the University of North Texas. In 2002 I joined the EPCC faculty and has since earned the rank of Professor.
I teach a wide variety of courses. Some of these courses include Precalculus I, Fundamentals of Mathematics I and II, Introductory Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences, College Mathematics, Fundamentals of Statistics, Modern Mathematics, Basic Math, Introductory Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. I also teach the corequisite courses for Precalculus and Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences.
I have played a big part in developing the Math Emporium Program at El Paso Community College. I designed the student course platform online, lead a group of faculty in the development of the Math Emporium student notebook, and created a faculty training website for professors teaching a Math Emporium Section. Along with the website I also created a faculty handbook for faculty to use during the semester. She also developed the Introductory Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences course online. I have also created the corequisite courses online using Webassign or MyMathlab depending on the textbook in use.
Students are my greatest joy, and with that joy lies my greatest hope: that I can not only educate them, but inspire them with the confidence to strive for a better life. Throughout the years I have encouraged, motivated, trained, and inspired other faculty to enthuse their students with the confidence to strive for a better life. I strive to do right by my students and colleagues and be what they expect and need from me. When I feel discourage, frustrated, tired, or stressed—all I have to do is think about the students, and remember that I once was in their shoes. This revives the fire within me to improve and grow, so I can do and be even more for others.
