Erica Goddard
I started my career at UB as an undergraduate in the Honors Program and Psychology Department 18 years ago, and simply never left. I earned first my Bachelor’s and then my Master’s Degree from UB's Department of Psychology. It was after this that I discovered my love of teaching and mentorship of undergraduate students as an Adjunct Instructor working with the department of Psychology, the EOP Program, and the Honors College.
My constantly evolving teaching style is student focused and aims at fostering empathy regardless of the course (which is likely why I now offers a seminar on empathy). Because the Psychology Department includes many service courses for non-majors, my goal is to have students leave each course with a better understanding not only of pure information, but of a way of thinking that leaves them better able to take the perspective of others and make more empathically informed decisions.
Although I am not currently involved in a research program, my research and professional interests center on pedagogy and I hope to form collaborations that can work towards quantifying best practices in teaching and learning in online and seated classes. Most recently, I am partnering with the Experiential Learning Network at UB as a Faculty Fellow, setting up a Human Library focusing on Mental Health and Psychological Research. When I am not spending time with my students and on course design, I am trying to raise two adorable children, Paige (6) and Perrin (3), with my husband, Ross (also a UB Honors Program Graduate).
