Brian Callopi
My teaching philosophy is based on experience, education and goals I have excelled at and achieved over the past 35 years in the transportation field. My last position as a service manager taught me that the industry needs technicians starting out with a good foundation to build upon. That isn’t happening. I chose to become an instructor to change that.
I’m committed to teaching students the skills necessary to begin a lifelong career and excel at it. Students cannot learn only by doing it. It is time consuming and isn’t cost effective for the employer. Neither can they learn only from a book and be proficient at it. My goal is for the students to have a thorough understanding of how and why things work. This gives students the ability to identify and repair the task at hand which enables them to understand and troubleshoot other systems as well.
Teaching students to be respectful to the instructor/employer as well as their fellow classmates/employees, gets them on the right path. Getting along with everyone and having a positive attitude makes the work place enjoyable for everyone.
Safety is huge in the work place. I require students to wear the proper PPE and explain how and why it is done. Asking myself, what I am doing, what is the risk, do I have the correct tooling and do I have the correct PPE? Preparing to do a task at work or home with these things in mind, will get the job done without injury, a waste of time, or frustration. Following company policies and procedures, with a positive attitude, no matter the circumstance, will go a long way with an employer.
My vision is to have a reputation for turning out quality students that have employers lined up at the door waiting to hire them.
