Focusing on technological advances that are changing the practice of law, this practical, hands-on text covers day-to-day law office management topics, including client relations and communication skills; legal fees, timekeeping, and billing; client trust funds and law office accounting; calendaring, docket control, and case management; legal marketing; and file and law library management. The Fourth Edition is accompanied by Clio’s Boutique Plan cloud-based software (with in-depth tutorials) which allows students to master skills in time and billing, accounting case management, and document management. Other highlights of the new edition include new ethics-related case reviews, up-to-date forms, charts, and checklists that illustrate important concepts relating to paralegals in the law office, and hands-on exercises.

Cynthia Traina Donnes, Tulane University

Cynthia Traina Donnes (B.A, M.A.) began her legal career overseeing bankruptcy cases for a statewide bank’s legal department. She soon was appointed as a bankruptcy trustee for the Eastern District of Louisiana, at the time, one of the youngest in the country. She later was appointed as an Arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), hearing securities matters. She recently qualified with the Louisiana Bar Association as a Civil and Family Mediator. She currently teaches Technology in the Law and Bankruptcy Practice and Procedures at Tulane University, where she also revised and taught the Notary Public Preparation course, as well as the Legal Ethics course, and employed interns as part of the Paralegal Internship program. Expanding her teaching beyond the classroom, she presents at seminars and conferences and provides continuing legal education as an accredited sponsor through the Louisiana Supreme Court. ABA certified from the University of New Orleans, she holds a Masters in Legal Studies from American Public University, a Louisiana Notary Public commission, and both Series 7 and Series 66 licenses with FINRA.

“Activities at End of Chapters – This is my favorite part of each chapter. These activities can be both academic and hands-on, so they provide a great change of pace for the students and instructor.”

“Compared to prior textbooks for this course I have used, this one is superior. The wealth of activities at the end of the chapters are outstanding for giving students great, hands-on knowledge. This is one of the few books I have reviewed that has gone the extra mile regarding supplements. Everything I always look for, including web resources, legal technology, outside projects, was available in this book. I was really happy to see these supplements.”

Cengage provides a range of supplements that are updated in coordination with the main title selection. For more information about these supplements, contact your Learning Consultant.
