Global Perspective: Voter turnout levels vary significantly around the world and over time.  While in the United States, federal elections are held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, in other nations elections might be held on multiple days or on weekends to improve turnout.  Other nations have declared election-day a national holiday, and still others make voting compulsory or impose penalties on those who abstain.  To improve your perspective on how turnout in the United States compares with other nations of the world on voter turnout, check out the following links.
