Rachel Bain — University of Wisconsin - Madison

With a focus of mastery in addition to practice, OWLv2 gives us the tools to help our students succeed in what is perceived to be a difficult subject.

I am the instructional technology coordinator for the undergraduate chemistry program at University of Wisconsin - Madison. We serve thousands of students each semester, most of whom aren't chemistry majors, so we have a wide variety of preparation and aspirations that we encounter each year.

We began using OWLv2 fall 2014 in our accelerated first-year chemistry course; fall 2015 we will use it in 10 of our 12 first-year lectures. With a focus of mastery in addition to practice, OWLv2 gives us the tools to help our students succeed in what is perceived to be a difficult subject. Students love the immediate feedback on each question and the ability to go back and practice assignments after the due dates. Faculty appreciate how easy it is to set up assignments and view student results. TAs no longer have to spend time grading weekly assignments.
