I've been using SAM since its inception and have found it an excellent tool for both online and face-to-face courses.
I'm a professor and department chair in the Computer Applications & Office Management department at Santa Barbara City College. My main teaching involves fully online classes of our Intro to Computer Applications course, but our department teaches all levels of computer applications and concepts courses. I've been teaching for over 30 years, all at the post-secondary level ' ' ' ' 11 years in New York City and now 20 years at SBCC.
I've been using SAM since its inception and have found it an excellent tool for both online and face-to-face courses. We use SAM Training to give students extended tutorials that expand on the concepts in the textbook and lectures. SAM Projects show students how to create actual documents. We also give students a chance to correct their errors and resubmit prior to the deadline, extending the learning beyond "right or wrong." SAM Exams lets me further assess students' learning in a testing environment, using hands-on tasks and short-answer questions. The addition of Concepts tasks has provided even more opportunities for assessment. And I LOVE SAM's auto grading.
I've been on the SAM Advisory Board and have been happy to see SAM improve with each new release. I'm always happy and excited to share my knowledge of and experience using SAM with colleagues from other institutions. I look forward to more opportunities to do that as part of the Faculty Partners' Network.
