Kathleen Golden — Edinboro University

The great thing about the YouSeeU add-in with MindTap is that the students record introduction speeches during the first week of classes and then everyone has a face and voice to attach to a name.

I am a professor of Communication Studies and the Department Chair at Edinboro University. My areas of expertise are organizational communication, rhetorical theory, rhetorical criticism, and small group communication. I teach on both the graduate and undergraduate level, and have been teaching Public Speaking for over 30 years.

In 2014, moving to online teaching, I found MindTap to be the best tool. I combine MindTap with virtual meetings on Blackboard Collaborate, but most of the time the students work independently. The great thing about the YouSeeU add-in with MindTap is that the students record introduction speeches during the first week of classes and then everyone has a face and voice to attach to a name. Discussion Boards are fine, but our students really need to be engaged, and this makes MindTap an essential part of the distance and blended classroom experience.

I earned my Bachelor's in Education and my Master's degree in English from Youngstown State University, and hold a Ph.D. from Kent State University in Rhetoric and Communication.
