Amy Myers — Parkland College

Economics students need to practice solving problems, and I had been frustrated by my inability to produce enough varied exercises to help students prepare adequately for exams. MindTap and Aplia have filled that need beautifully.

I am a Professor of Economics at Parkland College in Champaign, IL, and have taught Principles of Macroeconomics and Principles of Microeconomics for more than 30 years. I began developing and teaching courses online in 1999 and have incorporated innovative technologies and web-based components that improve learning outcomes in all of my classes. I also helped redesign Parkland's college success course and taught it for several years. Economics students need to practice solving problems, and I had been frustrated by my inability to produce enough varied exercises to help students prepare adequately for exams. MindTap and Aplia have filled that need beautifully; the explanations and multiple attempts with similar questions in Aplia are exactly the solution I was seeking.

I earned my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Economics from Eastern Illinois University and then taught there for 16 years before accepting a position at Parkland College. Since joining the faculty at Parkland in 1999, I have served six years as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences and Human Services, as well as serving on various committees including College Planning Committee, Assessment Committee, Web Governance Committee, and the First Year Experience Task Force. In 2015, I was awarded the Parkland Teaching Excellence Award (NISOD).
