Mitsuru Taniuchi is professor at the Faculty of Commerce at Waseda University in the fields of macroeconomics and international finance. Having earned a bachelor of law from the University of Tokyo and a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University, he also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Wharton School. Professor Taniuchi worked extensively with the Japanese government in economic research and policy planning, and held various positions including director general of the Cabinet Office’s research bureau. He was also an economist at the World Bank and chairman of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Committee. In 2004, he left public service and has since been teaching and conducting research at Waseda University.
He has authored many books in the Japanese language such as Financial Markets, Banking and Money, Second Edition (Cengage Learning, Japan, 2013); Global Imbalances and Asian Economies (Koyo Shobo, Japan, 2008); and Growth and Finance in Asia (Toyo Keizai Shinposha, Japan, 1997). He was also the chief author of The White Paper on the Economy and Public Finance, Fiscal 2001, (National Printing Bureau, Japan, 2001).
