Use the Office 365/2021/2016 Content Player

Use the SAM Content Player to take exams, trainings, and SAM Path assignments.

The Content Player displays videos, asks questions, and delivers tasks you need to complete. Follow the instructions overlaid on the simulated program screen to complete tasks.

Important Do not exit the Content Player by clicking the X button on the Content Player window. You may lose your work. The Submit SAM Assignment window will open when your assignment is complete. (If you choose to submit an incomplete assignment, click Submit.) Click OK to submit your assignment and close the Content Player.

The Content Player control panel has different controls depending on what kind of assignment you're completing.

Training Control Panel

Note You can switch between training modes at any time. Only Apply mode is scored.

The control panel for trainings shows the training's name and the current task's ID.

Control Description
Task list The task menu shows where you are in your assignment. Click on the task menu to access:
  • Tasks
    • A list of all tasks in your assignment. Click on a task to open it in the Content Player.
  • Mac Help
    • Tips for completing SAM assignments with a Mac keyboard.
  • Shortcut Keys
    • Tips for navigating the Content Player with your keyboard.
Intro

Open Intro mode.

Intro mode gives context for the task and steps to complete it.

If you open Intro mode while working in Practice or Apply mode, your progress will not be saved when you return to that mode.

Observe

Open Observe mode.

Observe mode shows a video demonstration of the task. Each interaction is highlighted on the screen and described in text and audio.

If you open Observe mode while working in Practice or Apply mode, your progress will not be saved when you return to that mode.

Practice

Open Practice mode.

In Practice mode, you perform each step to complete the task. Each interaction is highlighted on the screen and described in text and audio.

Apply

Open Apply mode.

Complete the task without assistance in Apply mode.

Restart Restart the task.
Previous available task Return to the previous available task.
Next available task Go to the next available task.
Task instructions Reopen task instructions if you have closed them.
Pause Pause
  • In Observe mode, pause the demonstration.
  • In Practice mode, pause audio narration.
Play Play
  • In Observe mode, play the demonstration.
  • In Practice mode, play audio narration.
Rewind

Rewind

Only available in Computer Concepts tasks with videos.

Fast forward

Fast forward

When you review a video you have already seen, you can fast forward. Fast forward is not available until you have completed the task for a video.

Only available in Computer Concepts tasks with videos.

Playback speed Increase the speed of the video demonstration and audio narration.
Closed caption

Closed caption on/off

If the closed caption button is disabled, then the audio matches the instructions already shown on the screen in Observe and Practice modes.

Transcript Open a transcript of the audio narration. This shows all instructions given in Observe and Practice modes in one place.
Note You must allow pop-up windows to view the transcript.
Mute Mute audio narration in Observe and Practice modes.
Submit Submit your assignment.

Exam Control Panel

The control panel for exams shows:

  • Exam name
  • Current task ID
  • Attempts remaining
  • Time remaining (if timed)
