Constance Staley: Author Bio

Constance Staley is Professor of Communication at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She holds a B.S. in education, an M.A. in Linguistics, and a Ph.D. in Communication. She currently teaches undergraduate courses in organizational communication, conflict management, a graduate seminar in training and development, and she also directs and teaches in the campus’s nationally recognized interdisciplinary Freshman Seminar Program.

She won the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Outstanding Teacher Award in 1998 and was nominated for a CASE U.S. Professor of the Year Award. During 1995-96, she was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to teach in the republic of Kyrgyzstan in the former Soviet Union, representing the University of Colorado and the United States.

While on leave from the University of Colorado from 1988-1991, Dr. Staley worked full time for an East Coast Fortune 500 company, where she designed and delivered all management and supervisory training. Her first book, Communicating in Business and the Professions: The Inside Word, was published in 1992. Her recent work includes the publication of a ten-module faculty training package, Teaching College Success (1999), and a hands-on resource book for faculty, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lectern (2003). Dr. Staley leads workshops for faculty from a variety of disciplines who work with first-year students and helps institutions across the country develop and refine their first-year seminar programs.
