ASSESSMENT IN SPECIAL AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION offers basic information and a handbook-style reference to comprehensive, frank reviews of the tests most administered in K–12 schools. This edition brings MTSS/RTI and ELL to the forefront -- while retaining key features. The authors focus on classroom-based as well as standardized tests commonly used to determine eligibility for special education. Appropriate for novices and experts, this product equips readers with the knowledge and tools to assess their students' skills and abilities. It shows readers how to go beyond predictions about students to efforts that can make a difference in the lives of the students they serve.

John Salvia, The Pennsylvania State University

John Salvia is Professor Emeritus of Special Education at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Salvia is also the author of individual tests and numerous articles on the assessment of students with disabilities. Dr. Salvia remains interested in the extent to which students receive appropriate educational assessments.

  • Promoting active reading and learning, each chapter begins with clearly stated learning objectives and ends with a set of corresponding comprehension questions.
  • "Scenario in Assessment" features connect highlighted chapter concepts to the real-life classroom. The vignettes, which describe assessment situations in which new teachers might find themselves, provide students with a practical, real-world, and human perspective on the impact of assessment.
  • In addition to new tests and measures, the book includes reviews of a variety of other commonly used tests.
  • The text's practical emphasis on preparing readers to transition from pre-service to practice helps new teachers understand how to assess their students' skills and abilities effectively and efficiently.
