Candy Cantrell - Fullerton College

Fullerton College, the oldest community college is California has been home to Candy Cantrell as a
Professor of Computer Information Systems for the past 25 years. In her early years she taught
computer programming courses. Candy was instrumental in developing and implementing application
software courses at Fullerton College. Eventually she become the department coordinator and under
her leadership made the decision to become a Microsoft Certification Institution. Candy took on the
leadership role as the Microsoft Office Certification Director and Fullerton College became one of
the leading Microsoft Office Specialist Certification programs in the country. Currently
Candy teaches Microsoft Office courses and is the Tech Prep Director--working with the local area
high schools and Regional Occupation Programs in developing articulation agreements and implementing
Kuder Career Assessment.
Jean Luoma - Davenport University

Jean Luoma has been affiliated with Davenport University for over 25 years starting out teaching a
variety of courses from math, anatomy, medical transcription and computers. She has taught and used
a variety of operating systems from DOS to Windows. She has taught the different versions of MS
Office products both inseat and online. Jean now teaches computer courses from the basics to
advanced computer and networking. When not on campus, she enjoys playing golf and working in the
outdoors.
Mary Walthall - St. Petersburg College

For over one-half of a century, Mary has been teaching business subjects from Shorthand to Microsoft
Applications at secondary and college levels and currently, online! She has earned the BS, MA, and
Ph.D degrees. She has edited more than 20 computer software textbooks, written several Instructor
Guides, and electronic test bank questions. At St. Petersburg College, Mary has worked with SAM
since its Beta testing days
Stephanie Moye - Southeastern Technical College

Stephanie Moye is from the great Georgia Peach State; however she is from the Sweet Onion Capital of
the World, Vidalia, Georgia. She has taught Computer Information Systems courses in Networking,
Computer Support, and Web Design for Southeastern Technical College for the past 10 years. She has a
Masters of Information Systems from Strayer University in Washington DC and 12 years of computer
experience. She was one of the first online instructors in the State of Georgia for the Technical
System of Georgia and has implemented various instructional technologies. She began her work with
Cengage Learning with SAM 2003 and has implemented all stages of the product in her SCT100
Introduction to Microcomputers courses. She is the lead instructor for the Introduction to
Microcomputers course and all Computer Information Systems courses. As Coordinator, she trains all
adjunct faculty in the use of the SAM program and sets up all the courses for the entire department
in SAM and in Angel (previously Blackboard).
Lisa Lopez - Spartanburg Community College
Expert On: SAM .
Lisa Lopez is the computer applications coordinator at Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg,
South Carolina. She uses SAM in over 47 different Microsoft Office courses. She uses the training,
projects, and testing modules of SAM 2007 to standardize course material, eliminate manual grading,
and for tracking and trending data.
She earned her Master of Business Administration from Webster University. She earned her Bachelor
of Science from the former South Carolina State College (now University). She has taken graduate
courses in decision support systems (data warehousing) and information technology management. She
is a Microsoft Specialist (Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint). She's a candidate for the Microsoft
Office Master Instructor certification. She is IC3 certified.
She is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Spartanburg. She is currently enrolled in the graduate
certificate program in higher education leadership at the University of South Carolina, which leads
to a PhD in Higher Education Administration.
She has over 17 years of experience with hands-on computer applications, including military
databases and civilian software applications.
Melissa Watson - Cape Fear Community College
Expert On: SAM .
Melissa Watson has been teaching in the Computer Information Technology discipline
at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina for ten years. She
has a BS in Business Administration and Organizational Development, a Masters
in Business Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Computer Science. Melissa
is the Lead Instructor for the Computer Information Technology discipline and
one of two administrators for SAM at her college. She has been using SAM for the
past seven years to train and test students in Microsoft Office applications.
Within the last two years, Melissa has included SAM Projects as a tool for her
instructors to incorporate real-world case projects for student assessment. Along
with her Lead Instructor administrative duties, she teaches a full course load
including courses focusing on all Microsoft Office applications, computer programming,
as well as information technology project management.
Robert Brown - Morehead State University

Robert Brown has been teaching Intro to Computers classes at Morehead 2000. He has also taught
Advance Microcomputers and Programming the SAM software since the beginning. Robert is looking
forward to help other instructors use this program in their classrooms.
Bill VanderClock - Bentley University

Bill VanderClock has been teaching Computer Information Systems at Bentley University for more than
20 years. His interests are in training, security and new technology. He has experience in many
different technology aids to teaching and is willing to help faculty with bringing technology into
the classroom.
Steven Freund - University of Central Florida

Steven Freund works at the University of Central Florida overseeing two introductory computer
classes with a combined annual enrollment of approximately 5,000 students. Steven has used the SAM
program since itâÂÂs first version for Office 2007, and continues using the product for
skills-based assessment in these courses. In addition, Steven is an author for the Shelly Cashman
Series, and also enjoys traveling to different schools to teach instructors about new and exciting
technologies.
Linda West - DeKalb Technical College

Linda West is a faculty member in the Computer Information Systems Department at DeKalb Technical
College in Clarkston, Georgia. Her duties in addition to teaching both campus and online classes
include adjunct faculty coordination and training, curriculum development, and assessment of
teaching methodologies. LindaâÂÂs academic career spanning more than 30 years has encompassed a
multiplicity of learning environments in both public and private educational institutions as well as
a self-employed computer trainer and consultant. Her association with Course Technology began in
1996 with book adoptions. Upon later discovering the power of SAM in computer courses, Linda became
an avid supporter and user of SAM!
Linda Haberaecker - Davenport University

Linda Haberaecker is an Associate Professor in the School of Technology at Davenport
University's Livonia, Michigan, campus. She has taught on the high school and
college levels where she has also held administrative positions. In addition,
she has corporate training experience. She has done (and is doing) extensive curriculum
work. She teaches anything from computer foundation courses and applications to
Web Design and development (including Graphics). Her students do a great deal
of experiential learning work.
She has served on various textbook review teams for Course Technology and is looking
forward to being a Power User for Course Technology. Linda especially enjoys creating
training exercises in SAM for her students and likes the way that SAM can create
a companion exam to go with her personalized training. Her students have commented
on how much they like SAM's training because it SHOWS them how things should be
done.
Linda resides in Detroit, Michigan. Other interests including spending time with
her family and raising/training Golden Retrievers.
Debbie Luna - El Paso Community College

¡Hola! Debbie Luna is from El Paso, TX. She is a tenured professor at El Paso Community
College. She has been teaching in the Accounting and IT disciplines for the past fourteen years. She
teaches a variety of classing including: Principles of Accounting I and II, Forensic Accounting,
Introduction to Computers, and Business Computer Applications. Because Debbie enjoys having a
âGreenâ class, the integration of CengageNOW and SAM into her classes is a perfect match. Debbie
has been a power user for CengageNOW for about five years, and this is her first year as a Power
User for SAM.
Brenda Britt - Fayetteville Technical Community College

Brenda Britt has been teaching at Fayetteville Technical Community College over 25 years. She has
taught in the Business Administration area and the Information Systems area. She has used SAM (TOM,
etc) since its inception!
Cynthia Davis Smith - Central Georgia Technical College

Cynthia Davis Smith is the Department Head of the Arts and Sciences Department at Central Georgia
Technical College. She received her Master's Degrees in M.I.S and M.B.A. from Georgia College and
State University. She has taught Introduction to Microcomputers for seventeen years at the college
and utilized SAM to help students succeed at their educational and career goals. She incorporated
SAM into her courses to expose students to cutting-edge technology with practical, hands-on training
skills and problem solving instructions. SAM has allowed her to give students quick feedback while
empowering them to excel in today's high-tech global economy.
