About

Overview

Using her unique M-A-P approach (Model-Analysis-Practice), Susan Fawcett’s books have guided more than three million students through the writing process, from foundations of grammar, mechanics, and spelling through writing clear sentences to well-organized paragraphs and essays. Her inductive approach; many high-interest practices and student models; critical-thinking and viewing focus; and contemporary readings engage and motivate students. Accuracy, excellence, and modular organization are hallmarks of this series. This new Eleventh Edition of GRASSROOTS triples the writing coverage-with new Chapters 5 and 6, “Thinking Through the Writing Patterns.” Also featured are new critical-thinking and viewing assignments throughout; eight fresh reading selections focused on issues and ideas, not narrative; and a new emphasis on academic and third-person writing.

Author Bio

Susan Fawcett

Susan Fawcett started teaching English at Bronx Community College right after she finished college. The idea for the EVERGREEN books grew out of her frustration that adults needed remediation but the only material available had a tone more appropriate for middle school students. She occasionally teaches a class in Miami, where she lives in the winter and writes full time.
