What's New

  • The book is more concise. Chapters have been combined and others have been tightened. While the six-part structure has been retained, the text now has 20 chapters (as opposed to 24). Part 1 is devoted to the investment process and financial concepts and Part 2 covers investment companies. Stock is found in Part 3; Part 4 is devoted to fixed income securities. Part 5 covers derivatives and Part 6 sums up the process of financial planing, management of risk, and the role of the individual’s believe in the efficiency of financial markets.
  • Chapter 2 combines secondary markets and primary markets into a single chapter.
  • Money market instruments has been transferred to the section on market mutual funds in Chapter 6.
  • Chapter 12 places emphasis on how human traits affect investment decisions as well as how technical analysis places emphasis on the trends and tendencies of stock prices.
  • Chapter 20 places emphasis on the need for financial planning prior to portfolio construction.

Dr. Herbert Mayo teaches finance at The College of New Jersey and is a former Director of Accreditation. A well-respected author and experienced educator, he has written several successful books focusing on critical finance issues and today's investment opportunities. He earned his PhD from Rutgers University and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
