Summers' new text examines all the particular issues and specific concerns that should be understood and addressed for each high-risk population. The text indicates what warning signs to look for, what questions to ask, and what potential problems may arise. While it primarily functions as a companion text to Summers' FUNDAMENTALS OF CASE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE, which covers the basics of case management, this new text presents the basic steps in practice, dealing with specific "high-risk" populations. It also offers a greater focus on intake and monitoring. Although Summers' two books are related, this book can also be used on its own or as a supplement to other, more theoretical texts. The text is also an ideal reference for students working with specific populations.

Efficacy and Outcomes

"This book is an excellent resource for introducing students to the development and writing of an assessment. It is one of a kind. It is a resource that is well overdue for teaching in social work practice. It is practical and simplistic, this making it a valuable tool for students." "I think that this is an excellent book that can be used in various ways. It is an excellent book to support a practice course, to enhance field instruction or for an elective. It is the best book, I think, to teach case management."

— Freddie Avant, Stephen F. Austin State University

"This is a long-overdue, and significant, contribution to the field of human services. I would immediately adopt it in my classes, especially as a companion product to FUNDAMENTALS OF CASE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE. The vast majority of the material is accurate and comprehensive."

— Georgia Bland, Oregon Institute of Technology

"This text prepares the student for real-life scenarios. It gives the students the opportunity to begin learning about treatment development and critical clinical skills needed to manage in the case management arena. In a field that is growing so quickly, this text enables individuals to transition form school to workplace much more smoothly."

— Lisa Deason, Tulsa Community College
