  • More engaging than ever, each chapter has been fully refreshed with bright new images and examples from recent headlines.
  • The text emphasizes real-world news coverage throughout. For example, Chapter 21: Disasters, Weather and Tragedies teaches students how to carefully report about tragedy as it examines real-life events like the Boston Marathon Bombing and the Sandy Hook School Shooting.
  • To more evenly align with the terminology of the day, all of the Convergence Coach Boxes have been updated to new Multimedia Boxes. In addition, much of the multimedia content has been fully integrated into the chapters, as various media outlets are no longer add-ons, but simply part of the way the news world operates.
  • To enhance student learning and comprehension, the author developed an all-new book glossary. Featuring many of the newer terms now used in Journalism-like “microblogging”-this glossary helps increases your students' industry vocabulary.

Efficacy and Outcomes

Reviews

“[WRITING AND REPORTING NEWS is] A really good text for beginning journalism students with enough there for those who want to advance further than the basics. It's particularly helpful at universities, such as mine, that do not have journalism schools and where journalism is one part of a larger communication program.”

— Huntly Collins, La Salle University

“[WRITING AND REPORTING NEWS is] a book rich with theory and real working examples. The examples are strong, useful and relevant to teaching.”

— Richard Gaspar, Hillsborough Community College

“[WRITING AND REPORTING NEWS is] a good text that stays current with the journalism field. The updates every couple of years reflect ongoing industry trends.”

— Joshua Axriel, Kennesaw State University
