Content and Assets

The MindTap Learning Path guides students through readings, multimedia, and activities designed to follow the learning taxonomy from basic knowledge and comprehension up to analysis and application. By hiding, rearranging, or adding your own content, you control what students see and when they see it and match the Learning Path to your course syllabus exactly.

A Comprehensive, Multimedia Approach to Writing About Literature.

The first five modules on the learning path are the five writing assignments most frequently given to students in literature courses. The modules are:
Writing a Critical Response.
Writing an Analysis.
Comparing and Contrasting Literary Works.
Writing an Argument.
Writing a Research Paper.

Each module includes:
Learning Objectives on various levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.

A Getting Started activity to help motivate students to become engaged with the subject matter, including the ideas of the literary author introduced in the video.

Instruction in the entire process of writing a paper about literature: reading critically, planning and prewriting, and drafting and revising. Instruction is delivered via text and in-line videos. Videos focus in each writing path on the five points students need the most help with: reading critically, finding and narrowing a topic, developing a thesis, considering structure and support, and using textual evidence.

Open-ended in-line activities that students can use to guide them through the process of writing a paper about literature. Responses can be submitted online if the instructor desires.

Papers can be uploaded via the InSite app for easy online grading, peer review, and/or originality checking. Online grading can be done in text or video comments by the instructor.

Reflection activities allow students to reflect on what they have learned.

The sixth and seventh modules on literary terms and literary criticism offer instruction, examples, and in-line gradable activities that students can use to make their writing more specific and informed.

“Understanding Literary Terms” discusses about 80 commonly used literary terms in four major genres. Each extensive definition is followed by an annotated example and a autogradable, multiple-choice quiz to check comprehension.

“Using Literary Criticism in Your Writing” is a short guide to the major schools of criticism. Each discussion includes an extended example of the approach being applied, a list for further reading, and a set of questions that can be applied to any literary text.

More than 600 Literary Works that Students Can Annotate Inline

Nine modules organized by genre provide an anthology of approximately 650 literary selections powered by Questia, an online library that includes thousands of literary texts and works of literary criticism. Included in the anthology are both classic and contemporary works by well-known authors. They include short stories, poems, plays, essays and other works of short nonfiction, and novels. A select number of works feature author biographical information, “Reading the Work” hints for critical reading, “Understanding the Work” reading comprehension questions in autogradable, multiple-choice format, and open-ended “Analyzing the Story” questions that students can use as they discuss, analyze, interpret, and write about a literary work.

In addition to the anthology, students have access to the entire Questia research library via the Questia app. Questia includes more than 9 million journal and periodical articles and more than 80,000 book titles, all selected by librarians. Questia features a full range of search functionality to help students find relevant results, as well as intuitive research tools for organizing, managing, and storing work, including a highlighter, bookmarker, note-maker, and footnote and bibliography generator.
