What's New

  • New! Contemporary and thoroughly updated, with significantly more examples and cases presented in every chapter. High-profile current issues such as bullying, recent developments in juvenile sentencing law, the increase in violent crimes being committed by female juveniles, police/juvenile interaction, and much more keep the book on the cutting edge of the discipline.
  • New! Real world case file assignments – “Youth Stories” – in each chapter present a brief, real life case accompanied by critical thinking questions and activities, enhancing the relevancy of the text material and better preparing students for the types of challenges and assignments they may need to take on if they pursue a career in the criminal justice system.
  • New! A unique emphasis on evidence-based policies and practices – what works – with the text’s “Evidence-Based Practice: Prevention/Intervention/Treatment” boxed features in which innovative projects such as the popular restorative justice initiative “Family Group Conferencing (FGC)” and the groundbreaking Homeboy Industries are discussed.
  • New! A significantly revised Chapter 7 emphasizes how social forces impact gender and delinquency, and features new research on feminism and masculinity studies.
