Distinguished by its "myth vs. reality" framework, AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, 10th EDITION, encourages you to confront your preconceptions about American government and to think critically about the U.S. political system. Up-to-date content addresses issues such as the media, public opinion, the Supreme Court, domestic and international policy, education and environmental policies, and economic and social welfare. The tenth edition also features coverage of the 2010 mid-term elections. Now part of the Advantage Series, AMERICAN GOVERNMENT offers the same quality coverage at a competitive price.
  • "Politics & Popular Culture" boxes highlight the way different forms and transmitters of popular culture, such as movies, cartoons, and music, reflect and shape the function of government and politics. Topics include politics, cartoons, and the graphic novel; elections, politics, and rock 'n' roll; and Americans at war in the movies.
  • "Asked & Answered" boxes use an accessible question-and-answer format to take a closer look at political issues of interest to students. The following topics are included: Are college students represented by interest groups? Why are so few women serving in legislative bodies?
  • "Global Politics" boxes examine political institutions, orientations, and organizations from an international perspective. Topics include comparing constitutions, the reach of U.S. contractors, gender equality in legislative bodies, and multiple executives.
  • The Critical-Thinking feature found in the margins guides students in their reading.

"Do you want to challenge your Intro to American Government students' thinking and attract some new majors for the department? The Gitelson book's framework is organized to do this."-- Greg Andranovich, California State University - Los Angeles Greg Andranovich, California State University - Los Angeles

"An accessible text that students are not threatened by. It covers all the major components for an American Government class and tends to hold the students' interest better than some of the more technical presentations."-- David Lektzian, Texas Tech David Lektzian, Texas Tech
