Faculty Development Program - Online
Ongoing professional development for all educators.
Instructor Benefits
Cengage Delmar’s online Faculty Development Program can help you
develop your overall expertise as an educator, expand your teaching techniques,
and be prepared for the unique challenges in today’s classroom.
Ongoing professional development for all educators – full or part-time, new
or highly-experienced – has taken a step forward in convenience and depth
with this online program.
Today’s complex educational environment requires instructors to know the latest
theories, concepts, and methods. In a single classroom, an instructor can find a
recent high school graduate, a homemaker looking to return to the workforce, a GED
recipient, and a professional with a masters degree seeking to change careers. The
Faculty Development Program was designed with this environment in mind.
The online program is divided into modules, each addressing a specific strategy
to develop the effective teaching skills an instructor will need to reach a diverse
adult student population. Ten courses are currently available, with more to come:
• Understanding the Adult Learner
• Teacher Preparation
• Techniques for Classroom Presentation
• Strategies for Active Learning
• Assessing and Evaluating the Adult Learner
• Classroom Management for the Adult
• Teaching Students How to Learn
• Technology in the Classroom
• Teaching Online
• Customer Service in the Classroom
• Techniques for Teaching Special Populations (March 2005)
• Creating an Innovative Learning Environment (March 2005)
• Teaching in a Lab or Shop Environment (March 2005)
• Teacher Training Boot Camp (March 2005)
Administrator Benefits
As educational institutions turn to part-time or adjunct faculty to meet the demand
of increased enrollments or just to control costs, they are faced with a challenge:
they are hiring individuals who are experts in their fields but not necessarily
expert trainers. Developing these experts to become better trainers can lead to
increased student satisfaction and retention.
The Faculty Development Program has an online reporting system that allows administrators
to see their faculty’s progress. All data— including which faculty has
accessed the course, what scores they received, and how long they spent within the
course —is automatically fed into a site accessible by administrators.
The online Faculty Development Program is offered through
Cengage Delmar, a part of Cengage Learning.
