  • Expanded Online Resources. The new enhanced sixth edition features numerous improvements to the iLrn™: Heinle Learning Center, including an updated eBook, a trackable diagnostic study tool, an improved instructor gradebook, more than 30 web-based grammar tutorials, 40 video-based pronunciation tutorials, 20 new culture videos, additional practice activities, and more!
  • Teach French in Context. "Langue et Culture" sections combine authentic materials and activities that enable students to practice using French within a real-world context. These sections integrate information about the words, language patterns, and cultural issues used in preceding vocabulary presentations and also ask students to make cross-cultural comparisons. "Mots et Usages" immediately follow the vocabulary presentation and feature cultural and lexical information about words and expressions used in each Leçon.
  • Evoke Student Creativity. By providing students with the opportunity to engage in group work and interact in the French language, the "Échanges" sections at the end of every Leçon promote creativity and help students synthesize grammatical, lexical, and cultural content.
  • Improve Reading Skills and Language Awareness. "Magazines Littéraires" encourage the development of reading skills and the study of literary analysis by providing students with literary reading experiences within a magazine-style context while allowing instructors to include and select readings according to student interests and available class time. Each of the four "Magazines Littéraires" is based on a primary theme related to preceding chapters and includes literary extracts--prose, poetry, and song lyrics--and activities. Additionally, "Découvertes Linguistiques" activities help improve language awareness by asking students to analyze and explore language and reflect on how languages are put together.
  • Cohesive Program. Vocabulary and structures are presented and practiced in context and carefully recycled throughout the text to help students fully learn and internalize each lesson.
  • Out-of-Class Assignments. Giving you more flexibility, the grammar presentations can be assigned for out-of-class work, allowing additional time for communicative and intellectual work in class.
  • Emphasis on Form. The activities combine a focus on form, which allows the student to learn about the language system, with a focus on meaning, which teaches the student to communicate in the language.
  • Integrated Coverage of Culture. The cultural information from France and the Francophone world is rich and well integrated throughout each chapter.
  • Easy to Use. VOILÀ! offers a clear organization and abundant instructor annotations and support. Additionally, chapters are divided into manageable units that can be easily adjusted to fit any instruction schedule.

"[VOILÀ] is a very solid, comprehensive, and user-friendly elementary textbook that almost all students and instructors are enthusiastic about. It is easy for a novice instructor to do a very good job teaching with this book--it is my task to train new instructors at Columbia, and I can assure you that using a good, clear, reliable textbook that comes with good resources for instructors is a huge help!"

"There are numerous things . . . that I find positive about [VOILÀ]. I like the characters and the images that are provided in the first part of the chapters. I like the clear explanations of grammatical structures and I like it when there are numerous activities and exercises for students to practice what they have just learned."
