  • Today's students bring an unprecedented range of backgrounds and experiences to the language classroom. To help instructors navigate the challenges of learner diversity, NEXOS uses a variety of tools and strategies associated with Differentiated Instruction. Inspired by the 21st Century Skills Map for World Languages (ACTFL), this edition includes tips, strategies, and approaches to develop key skills in the Spanish classroom.
  • "¡Vívelo!" is a new two-page, highly scaffolded task-based activity that appears at the end of every chapter. Each activity includes pre-class reflection and preparation, in-class pair or group work, and post-class oral or written follow up. Students share their final products with their classmates online.
  • NEXOS, 4th Edition features five new reading selections. Four are literary texts and include work by well-known Spanish-language authors such as Gabriel García Márquez and Gabriela Mistral. These new pieces give students the opportunity to encounter and interact with literature in Chapters 9–14 and to prepare themselves for ongoing work in Spanish at the next level.
  • This edition incorporates engaging new video footage that provides a new setting for the carefully structured storyline video. Beto, one of the main characters, is now a professor showing students videos about his life as a university student. This new footage gives students a present-day vantage point that allows them to draw comparisons.
  • The new Annotated Instructor Edition's wrap margin provides an in-depth and enhanced instructor-support apparatus with new Differentiated Instruction annotations and tips and strategies to help develop key 21st century skills.
  • Culture has been fine-tuned throughout to enhance learning outcomes, supported by backward design: KWL charts in chapter opener activities are followed up in sections throughout the chapter with updated comparative information, topics for further exploration, and a culminating KWL activity in end-of-chapter cultural sections.
  • An "¡Explora y exprésate!" section in each chapter helps students connect what they have studied and practiced to further cultural explorations and meaningful communication through copiously annotated learning objectives, backward design structure, and student-produced KWL charts.
  • A focus on differentiation and assessment is accomplished through a wealth of instructor annotations that provide tips and suggestions for checking student progress throughout the chapters. NEXOS also incorporates Bloom's Taxonomy by correlating chapter objectives to align with Cognitive and Knowledge categories.
  • "Repaso y preparación" sections at the end of each chapter make it easy for students to check what they have learned and get ready to absorb new material in the next chapter.
