Overview

INFANTS AND TODDLERS: CAREGIVING AND RESPONSIVE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, 9th Edition, guides readers through the acquisition of skills necessary to provide high-quality care for infants and toddlers in any educational setting. This edition's new subtitle better reflects its goal of providing appropriate caregiving and educational techniques, as well as curriculum ideas, for infants and toddlers from birth to age three. Overviews of key child care philosophies as they relate to the child, the caregiver, and the parent appear, as well as case studies and lesson plans that help students translate theory into practice.

  • Revised case studies present real-life examples of the concepts and principles discussed.
  • A strong focus on special needs children is integrated throughout the text.
  • Appendix A provides developmental milestones for children from birth to 36 months for the four major areas of development, assisting caregivers in recording observations and assessing each child's current level of development.
  • Learning Objectives and professional early childhood standards relevant to each chapter appear at the beginning of each chapter, and a standards correlation chart, which provides an easily accessible glimpse of where standards are covered throughout the book, appears on the inside covers. In addition, Appendix B provides specific information about CDA Competency Goals and the NAEYC Standards for Early Childhood Professional Preparation: Initial Licensure Programs.
  • "Spotlight" features highlight key research topics, professional child care organizations, and the personal experiences of child care professionals to enhance the book's real-world perspective. In the latter "Spotlight on Practice--Voices from the Field" features, which appear in Chapters 11–14, practicing teachers apply and reflect on concepts discussed in the chapter.
  • "Reading Checkpoints" within chapters improve comprehension by asking students to pause and consider what they have just read.
