Autour de la littérature: Ecriture et lecture aux cours moyens de français 6th Edition

Peter Schofer, Donald B. Rice

  • Previous Editions 2007, 1999, 1995

Overview

The Sixth Edition of AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE retains its unique approach to literature, encouraging students to play and create with the language as they explore both classical and non-traditional Francophone literature. AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE is printed in workbook format in order both to facilitate writing activities and to break down the fear and mistrust that many students have of literature. While maintaining the basic style and thrust of previous editions, changes are aimed at responding even more directly to changing student interests. The new edition includes several new readings and all new "publicités", in addition to a new Premium Website featuring the textbook audio program, which features audio recordings of selected readings from the text. A free companion website that accompanies AUTOUR includes reading guide questions, internet activities, and color versions of the text's featured publicités.

Donald B. Rice, Late of Hamline University

  • The Sixth Edition contains three new texts ; "L'échafaudage" from "Autres jeux avec le feu" by Linda Lê, "Les transports en commun" from "Les aurores montréales" by Monique Proulx, and "La vallée houdou" from "Un jardin au bout du monde" by Gabrielle Roy. The new readings provide students with exposure to longer narrative-style texts.
  • New texts in the advertisement sections include "Publicités: L'Afrique a du talent", "Bien manger", and "L'homme et la femme".
  • The Audio CD, packaged with each Instructor's Edition of the text, features recordings of nine of the texts.
  • A free companion website guides students' learning beyond the classroom and text by providing helpful study guide questions which enhance student enjoyment of each text and increase comprehension. In addition, the website also includes color copies of the ads from the text, exploration activities, and suggestions for out of class projects. The audio program is now available to students, password protected, on the Premium Website.
  • AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE includes a balance of selected texts from both men and women in different French-speaking countries and different genres.
  • AUTOUR DE LA LITTÉRATURE is designed to permit students to integrate grammar and vocabulary in new contexts. Although this book introduces students to various forms of literature, the ultimate goal is to integrate literature into the rest of language learning. Literary texts can, and should, increase students' proficiency in all four skills.
  • Every text is presented in a tripartite format. "Pré-lecture" pre-reading exercises are designed to place students in the situation of an author. "Lecture", the text itself, is followed by questions designed to set up class work on the text. "Post-lecture" writing activities are designed to give students the chance to write about or around what they have read.
  • The texts are divided into three sections reflecting basic levels of difficulty. The large number and great variety of texts as well as the "hands on" nature of the activities allow the teacher to make use of the texts in classes of different emphases and ability levels. Thirty text selections also include sections on three full-length films and three sections devoted to advertising.
  • The audio program includes recordings of several readings of literary excerpts and poems.
