Dad had showered at work, but there were still streaks of black coal dust smeared around his eyes and trapped under his fingernails. But, while the steaming hot showers had been able to wash away most of the coal dust, they could not wash away the look of dismay and worry on Dad’s face. He had lost his job, along with all the other miners. Now, our town and every family in it faced an uncertain future. Unless we could come up with an idea to save Riggers Bay, the town would soon be finished!
